New President and Vice-President for SSBA
Prior to coming ashore Alistair was Master with Saga Cruises and has vast experience of life at sea and in the shoreside environment. Alistair has been on the board of the Scottish Shipping Benevolent Association for 3 years. Within that time he has shown his passion for growing the work of the charity and providing the best support possible for our beneficiaries. Alistair becomes the 120th President in the history of the charity which dates back to 1899.
Alistair will be supported in his role by our Vice-President Eleanor Lane. Eleanor is a partner in CMS UK’s Infrastructure & Projects Team. She has particular expertise in the transport and maritime sectors, often advising on projects of unusual complexity and/or national importance. She has been a valued and respected member of the board for the past three years. Eleanor has contributed greatly to the progress and development of the charity and is looking forward to the year ahead.
The Charity in 2019
Importantly the work of the charity is still relevant today and beneficiaries can apply to receive regular support or a one-off grant. Firstly every beneficiary is visited by our Almoner who provides a vital link between the charity and the beneficiary. As a result of regular visits the charity can identify the best way in which we can help the beneficiary. Furthermore the charity seeks to promote its work and ensure its long term sustainability by organising events throughout the year. These include the annual golf day and hugely popular annual dinner in November.
Finally, Alistair and Eleanor have a busy year ahead of them as they look to take the charity forward and we wish them every success in their roles.
