For over 100 years, the SSBA has supported many people who have, at some point in their lives, been unable to support themselves or their families in times of need, whether through death, illness, redundancy, financial hardship, or where they are just unable to financially support their own or dependent’s ambitions for training and advancement.
The SSBA provides individuals in need with hardship funding for such things as paying winter fuel bills and buying basic food supplies. We also provide hardship funding to people indirectly through other related charities, such as the Scottish Nautical Welfare Society. SSBA bursaries may also be granted to members of the SSBA and their dependants for educational purposes, such as attending college or university.
The lifetime membership costs £25 which is a 100% charitable donation that demonstrates your support for our unique cause – we will warmly welcome you into our cimilarly interested community and would be delighted if you would like to join in at some of our events or otherwise.
Any person who has or is currently working in a shore-based role within the Scottish maritime community can join our worthwhile cause.
