WE ARE A CHARITY THAT GIVES FUNDING AND GRANTS TO PEOPLE WITH CURRENT OR PAST LINKS TO THE SHORE-SIDE MARITIME SECTOR IN SCOTLAND.
‘the continuing support we receive is beyond words… the money arrived at a time when I was struggling to find the finaces to pay for an unexpected bill’
In May 2015, after a life time at sea and in senior on shore management positions within the maritime industry, I suddenly found myself redundant from a career path that I had grown to love. Initially, I was naïve to believe I would find a new position rapidly, unfortunately that did not happen. We were reduced to living off our savings and the low payments from DWP, which was a huge strain. Then in October 2005, my wife was taken critically ill from which she narrowly survived. From then until recently I was my wife’s sole carer. When I was at my lowest point, and in a very dark place, I found the Association’s web page, and decided to request assistance. I am grateful that my plea for help was heard and financial aid granted. It is a significant fact, that without this help, there would have been times when we had no food, or power in our home. At all times I have been treated with compassion and great understanding of what may happen to people like myself.
